Thermal technologies for enhancing
& decarbonizing heavy oil recovery.

GERI (General Energy Recovery Inc.)
is a Canadian Energy Transition Technology company that provides thermal technologies for enhancing and decarbonizing heavy-oil recovery.

By co-injecting steam (or hot water) and flue gas, our award-winning Direct Contact Steam Generation (DCSG) technology adds heat, pressure, and CO₂ to the reservoir, improving oil recovery and mitigating the release of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the atmosphere.

DCSG Benefits vs. Traditional EOR Technologies

Increased Oil Recovery

  • Field proven steam-oil-ratio (SOR) of less than 1.6
  • Combines multiple, proven enhanced-oil recovery
    (EOR) mechanisms

Reduced Cost and Quick Deployment

Allows for rapid deployment and reduced installation costs
by using prefabbed, portable and re-usable modules
Significantly reduces water procurement costs when
generating hot water using produced water
Minimizes lengthy environmental and land-use applications
by using existing well leases
Replaces costly methane non-condensable gas (NCG)
injection in steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) with
more cost-effective flue gas

Lower Emissions and Environmental Impact

Has the potential to reduce carbon intensity by up to 67% compared to conventional Once-Through-
Steam-Generation (OTSG)

Completely eliminates freshwater usage when
utilizing produced water for hot water (with flue
gas) generation

Significantly reduces freshwater requirements by:

Energy Excellence Awards Champion

“Heavy oil production in Alberta and Saskatchewan has
notoriously poor recovery rates, often leaving as much as 90 per cent of the resource behind. It also tends to be emissions and capital intensive, meaning smaller deposits are not economically feasible to develop. A Calgary-based start-up has developed a technology that could entirely change that equation.”
